Ecton Copper Mine was once the deepest mine in England with rich deposits of copper ore. This guided tour will provide access to the (normally closed) engine house, explore the workings of an old copper mine and explain the importance of the Boulton and Watt steam engine for its operation. The tour will then continue underground and part of the old mine workings will be visited.
This tour is organised and guided by National Trust volunteers. Ecton Mine in the Manifold valley is owned and managed by the Ecton Mine Educational Trust. Ecton Hill and the former engine house are cared for the National Trust.
