Watt 2019: Illuminating James Watt

Malcolm Dick will illuminate James Watt, the scientist, craftsman, inventor and engineer. Hear how his pioneering work on improving steam engines led to a highly successful partnership with the industrialist and entrepreneur Matthew Boulton.

The talk will take place in the Visitor Centre at Soho House. After the talk there will be opportunity for an (optional) tour of the house.

Dr Malcolm Dick is Director of the Centre for West Midlands History at the University of Birmingham, a trustee of the Black Country Living Museum and a council member of the Newcomen Society. He has written widely on West Midlands History, including books on Birmingham and publications on Joseph Priestley, Matthew Boulton and John Baskerville.
