Very little is known about the over 600 men, women and children who worked at the Soho Manufactory, Foundry and Mint. Caitlin Russell and Christopher Olive have used the extensive Boulton and Watt archive to uncover the stories of those who worked for James Watt and Matthew Boulton. Hear about everyday workers’ experiences and relationships with their employers.

After the talk, original archive material used by Caitlin and Christopher for their research, will be on display in the reading room to have a look at.

Caitlin Russell and Christopher Olive worked as undergraduate researchers for History West Midlands 2017-2018 and have since completed their History studies at the University of Birmingham. Caitlin is now a Research Scholar for History West Midlands.
